Serving Our Saints

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. James 1:27

The youth at Pleasant Hill take this claim seriously and participate in a service project with the goal of serving the saints of the church and community who have given of their prayers and support for these young people. This involves tasks that range from changing light bulbs to ripping out carpet. It is through service that true joy in Christ is found. Do you have questions about this ministry? If so, please fill out the form at the bottom of the Youth Ministry page.

Sew Much Love

Sew Much Love is an informal group of ladies that love to do hand work, sewing, knitting, crocheting, loomwork, and also love to do things for others.  We get together monthly on the first Monday evening at 6:00 for about an hour of chatting and working together.  Before we leave, we say a prayer for the unknown recipients of the items.  During the month, we work on items to be donated.  Members are encouraged to pray over the items as they are being made.  A collection basket is kept in the narthex of the Fellowship Hall so that items may be turned in at any time.  There are no formal rules, and attendance at the meetings is strictly voluntary.  We just like to make things for people.  Participation is open to anyone.

We welcome donations of all types of yarn and cloth (cottons or cotton blends or baby flannel).  Contact Peggy Brooks at (205) 936-6025 or brookpeg@bellsouth.net for more information.

Sample Items

  • Baby blankets, hats, booties
  • Heart pillows for surgery patients
  • Lap quilts, adult bibs, and walker pockets for assisted living and nursing homes
  • Hats and scarves for the homeless or abused
  • Bandages for leprosy and tropical disease patients

Our Food Bank Ministry

Pleasant Hill continues to serve our community by assisting those struggling financially to support themselves or their family.  We established our current food pantry program in 2009 and would like you to keep us in mind when faces with situations of need.  The food pantry is open the first and third Thursday of every month.  We are looking to serve families based on income and referral from other organizations in town.  Families will be given a box of food to help supplement their meals for the month.  Our vision is for this to serve the individual as a whole with our intention being relationships.  Through this ministry we hope to get to know those who are struggling and learn about their most pressing needs.

We are asking our church family to help in the stocking of this project.  Items needed to fill our boxes are collected at the church family life center and stocked in our food pantry. Regular stocked nonperishable items include: canned soup, tuna, oatmeal, grits, canned vegetables, fruit juice, spaghetti, canned fruit, peanut butter, rice and jello.  You may also show your support by making a donation to the church designating it for the food pantry.
